Abstract

Relationships among global climate indices (Southern Oscillation Index, SOI; sea surface temperature, SST), rainfall and rain-fed crop yields were investigated in highland areas of southern Indonesia. Rainfall data were collected during the rainy season (October–March) from 1981 to 2009 in Gunungkidul district, Yogyakarta Special Province, southern Java, an important area of rain-fed crop production. Rainfall was highest in the southern and western mountainous areas, especially near the coast, and SOI and SST Niño.West values were highly correlated with rainfall in those areas. Soybean and dryland paddy yields were highly correlated with the amount of rainfall in January, and the average SOI during June–September was highly correlated with maize yield during January–April. read more

Effect of airflow rate and air temperature of flash dryer with horizontal spinner on drying of okara

Abstract:

Okara is the byproduct of tofu production that it contains some nutrition and fiber. High moisture content and stickiness of the material causes slow drying if it is used conventionally methods. The objective of this research is determining the drying characteristic of okara using flash dryer with horizontal spinner. Flash dryer was constructed with rectangle shape of pipe (each side 0.12 m). Electric fin heater was used as heat source. In this study, using variation of the air flow rate are 0.1389 m3 / s, 0.1443 m3 / s and 0.1536 m3 / s, as well as variations in feed rate namely FR1 (33 kg / h) and FR2 (37 kg / h). Drying was conducted from the initial moisture content 70-80% to about 15-20% moisture content with a sample of 2 kg. Moisture content at the end of each cycle was measured. Data properties such as air temperature and humidity environment observed every minutes. Data of fineness modulus, diameter, density, and color lab testing were collected after drying. Ambient temperature and humidity data were used to calculate the efficiency of drying. Drying efficiency of okara using flash dryer were about 13-17%, whereas the heating efficiency were value ranged between 75-77%. Based on testing okara diameter ranged between 0604-0821 mm and the fineness modulus values ranged between 2.536-2.979. Density of dried okara are in the range between 0.2532 – 0.3774 g/cm3. The color of dried okara had brightness level (L *) ranged between 44.3-56.1, with a value of * 3.6-8.2 and b * values 17.6-19.6. read more

Yogyakarta, 18 September 2012. Jurusan Teknik Pertanian menyelenggarakan kuliah umum mengenai Teknologi Informasi dibidang Pertanian (Information and Technology in Agriculture) yang disampaikan oleh Prof. Takashi Okayasu, Ph.D dari Kyushu University, Jepang. Kuliah umum ini diselenggarakan di ruang sidang fakultas 384 dan dihadiri kurang lebih 50 mahasiswa yang terdiri dari strata 1, master dan doktoral. Beberapa dosen Jurusan Teknik Pertanian juga turut hadir dalam acara kuliah umum ini.

Acara kuliah umum dibuka oleh Dr. Lilik Soetiarso, selaku Ketua Jurusan Teknik Pertanian kamudian dilanjutkan dengan perkenalan narasumber. read more

LATAR BELAKANG

Perkembangan minyak kelapa sawit di Indonesia sangat menjanjikan. Minyak kelapa sawit diperkirakan akan mampu memenuhi tuntutan pemenuhan kebutuhan internasional dan domestik, yaitu minyak sawit untuk pangan (food), makanan ternak (feed), bahan bakar nabati atau biodiesel (bio-fuel), dan serat (bio-fibre).Akan tetapi beberapa tahun terakhir ini terjadi kekhawatiran yang semakin meningkat tentang persoalan keberlanjutan dari pembangunan industri kelapa sawit, diantaranya adalah: peningkatan luas areal dan produksi minyak sawit, isu negatif terhadap pembangunan kelapa sawit yang dikaitkan dengan kerusakan lingkungan dan pengembangan produk kelapa sawit di Indonesia masih mengutamakan produksi minyak sawit mentah (CPO). read more

Yogyakarta. 6 September 2011. Jurusan Teknik Pertanian menyelenggarakan sosialisasi kurikulum baru Teknik Pertanian dan Biosistem serta aturan peralihan bagi mahasiswa yang sebelumnya menggunakan kurikulum 2006. Bertempat di auditorium Fakultas Teknologi Pertanian, acara ini dihadiri oleh kurang lebih 100 mahasiswa mulai dari angkatan 2007 sampai dengan 2010. Acara dibuka dan dipandu oleh Dr. Ir. Lilik Soetiarso, M.Eng, selaku ketua Jurusan dan didampingi oleh Dr. Bambang Purwantana, M.Agr selaku Wakil Dekan Bidang Akademik dan segenap dosen Jurusan Teknik Pertanian.
