The Serayu Opak River Basin Authority (BBWS SO) held a Technical Training for Weir Operation Officers (POB) on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. The program was attended by sixty POBs from across the Serayu Opak River Basin, along with heads of Irrigation Management Units (UPI). The event was officially opened by Rr. Vicky Ariyanti, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Operation and Maintenance Division, who highlighted the vital role of POBs in sustaining irrigation network management.
Serving as a key speaker, Dr. Murtiningrum, lecturer at the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), delivered a comprehensive session covering the responsibilities of POBs, procedures for completing operation and maintenance (OP) forms, and the application of the official weir OP manual. Her presentation emphasized essential operational tasks such as managing intake gates, flushing gates, sedimentation basins, as well as the maintenance of weir components. Specific OP forms were also discussed, including Form 01-P for infrastructure condition assessments and Form 08-O for river discharge monitoring.
In addition, participants gained deeper understanding of the weir OP manual, which provides a structured guideline for fieldwork and reporting. The training employed a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice, ensuring that participants not only enhanced their theoretical knowledge but also strengthened their practical skills in irrigation system management.
This program also reflects a contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by promoting more efficient agricultural irrigation, and SDG 13 (Climate Action) through adaptive and sustainable water resource management.
