Enhancing Laboratory Quality: FTP UGM Faculty and Technicians Join ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Lead Implementer Certification Training

Yogyakarta, April 25, 2025 — A total of ten lecturers and laboratory technicians from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), participated in an online Training and Certification for Lead Implementer of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Laboratory Standards, organized by LABNESIA from April 23 to 25, 2025.

The participating lecturers included Dr. Sri Rahayoe, Dr. Devi Yuni Susanti, Dr. Rudiati Evi Mashitoh, Dr. Joko Nugroho Wahyu K., Hanim Zuhrotul Amanah, Ph.D., Sri Markumningsih, Ph.D., Hilda Maya Sintia Dewi, S.T.P., M.Sc., Dwi Ayuni, Ph.D., and Ardan Wiratmoko, S.T.P., M.Sc. They were joined by laboratory technicians Musyrifah Kurniawati, A.Md. and Nadia Muna Salma, S.T.P.

The training provided comprehensive insights into the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, which serves as a global benchmark for managing testing and calibration laboratories. The program began with an introduction to the fundamental principles of the standard, followed by discussions on managerial requirements such as impartiality, confidentiality, laboratory organizational structure, and personnel responsibilities and authorities. Participants also received technical training on quality assurance of test results, method validation and verification, equipment calibration, and measurement traceability. Additional sessions covered strategies for developing quality documentation, document and record control, as well as internal audit procedures and management reviews.

This training aimed not only to enhance the technical and managerial competencies of human resources but also to strengthen laboratory management systems to ensure the production of valid, internationally recognized data. Participation in this program reflects the Department’s commitment to maintaining laboratory quality that supports research development and quality-based higher education.

The initiative directly supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, SDG 4 (Quality Education) is reflected in efforts to improve the capacities and skills of lecturers and technicians through internationally standardized professional training. Second, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) is embodied in the strengthening of laboratories as part of the research and innovation infrastructure that drives technological and scientific advancement. Third, SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) is demonstrated through collaboration between higher education institutions and training providers to build a sustainable and integrated laboratory quality system.

Through this training, the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at FTP UGM reinforces its position as a higher education institution that excels not only academically but also in professionalism and accountability in managing laboratory facilities, the backbone of national research and innovation.
