Sambak Tofu Artisans Visit “Tahu Sehat Sari” Factory to Learn About Environmentally Friendly Production

Klaten, June 25, 2025 — As part of efforts to improve the capacity of local tofu artisans, a group of tofu producers from Sambak Village, Kajoran District, Magelang, conducted a field visit to the “Tahu Sehat Sari” Factory located in Cokro, Klaten. This activity is part of the Small Medium Tofu Enterprise development program initiated by the YESSA Team (Yanmar Environmental Sustainability Support Association) from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

During the visit, the artisans were accompanied by the Secretary of Sambak Village, Mr. Danu, as well as Teguh Triyana, S.T.P., representing the YESSA DTPB UGM team. The group was warmly welcomed by Mr. Muslih, the Public Relations and Cooperation representative of Tahu Sehat Sari Factory, at the factory’s guest hall.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Muslih provided a brief introduction to the history of Tahu Sehat Sari Factory and its commitment to producing high-quality tofu using hygienic and environmentally friendly production practices.

The visit continued with a tour of the production area, where the artisans observed the entire tofu production process, from soybean grinding, cooking, molding, to the final packaging stages. The Sambak tofu artisans showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in discussions with staff at each production line.

Participants also had the opportunity to see the factory’s steam boiler installation, which has been specially modified to use environmentally friendly fuel that significantly reduces smoke emissions and minimizes waste discharged into the environment. This initiative reflects the factory’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and improving air quality around the production site.

After touring the production lines, the group returned to the guest hall for further discussions on managing tofu businesses in an efficient, hygienic, and environmentally conscious manner. During this session, Mr. Danu, representing the group, expressed his gratitude for the knowledge and valuable experience shared by Tahu Sehat Sari Factory.

This activity is in line with efforts to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by improving the capacity of small business players, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through the application of efficient and low-waste production, and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by implementing environmentally friendly waste management and more efficient, low-emission energy use.

It is hoped that through this activity, the tofu artisans of Sambak Village can sustainably develop their businesses, increase the competitiveness of local products, and contribute to building a greener and more responsible food industry.
