The collaborative research focuses on the theme “Encapsulation Techniques to Enhance the Thermal Stability of Essential Oil from Betel Leaves.” This study aims to develop encapsulation techniques to improve the thermal stability of betel leaf essential oil, which holds significant potential for applications in food technology, agricultural product processing, and other functional uses. The research is conducted in close collaboration with Chaleeda Borompichaichartkul, Associate Professor, Ph.D., from the Department of Food Technology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, who serves as the partner lecturer and co-researcher from the host institution.

Throughout the research visit, Dr. Dwi Ayuni focused on completing the joint research activities while simultaneously strengthening academic and research collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada and Chulalongkorn University. A series of scientific discussions, knowledge exchange sessions, and the utilization of partner laboratory facilities played a crucial role in supporting the quality and outcomes of the research.

In addition, the visit aimed to provide intensive supervision for the two undergraduate students, Khayatun Nisa and Nur Riskiyah Alfarasi, who are conducting their thesis research at the Department of Food Technology, Chulalongkorn University from 4 January to 7 February 2026. This mentoring process is expected to enhance the quality of the students’ research, broaden their international research experience, and strengthen their academic competencies.

This activity reflects the strategic commitment of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, FTP UGM, to expanding international academic networks and reinforcing its position as an institution actively engaged in global research collaboration. Beyond supporting institutional internationalization, the program also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the enhancement of learning and research quality, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through technological innovation development, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened international partnerships between higher education institutions.
