BANTUL – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through a collaboration between the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DTPB) at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, the Center for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), and the Agricultural Machinery Research and Modernization Center (BRMP Mektan), handed over agricultural machinery assistance in Japuhan Hamlet, Sidomulyo Village, Bambanglipuro District, Bantul Regency, on Friday (2/10/2026). The handover to the “Lembu Suro” Livestock Group and the Women Farmers Group (KWT) represents a concrete step by UGM in supporting eco-friendly agricultural modernization and driving the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This activity is part of the program titled “Scaling Crop Residue Management Through Mechanization and Custom Hiring in Indonesia.” It aligns with SDG 2: Zero Hunger (enhancing agricultural productivity and food security), SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (crop residue management/circular economy), SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through multi-sector collaboration between UGM academics, local government via the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), and community groups.
The handover ceremony was attended directly by the Head of DTPB UGM, Dr. Arifin Dwi Saputro; Head of the CSAM–BRMP–UGM Team, Prof. Lilik Sutiarso; team members Dr. Radi and Dr. Sri Markumningsih; and technician Marheri. Also present were Dwi Widayati, S.P., an agricultural extension worker from the Bambanglipuro Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), and Paijo, Head of the Lembu Suro Livestock Group.

The Head of the CSAM–BRMP–UGM Team, Prof. Lilik Sutiarso, expressed his appreciation for the commitment of farmers and livestock breeders in Japuhan Hamlet, who actively and maximally utilize agricultural mechanization technology.
“Japuhan Hamlet will even serve as one of our pilot model areas for national and international reports. I hope these tools can be optimized through various existing collaboration schemes so that agricultural and livestock activities in Japuhan Hamlet remain sustainable,” said Prof. Lilik.
Meanwhile, the Head of Department of Agriculutural and Biosystems Engineering FTP UGM, Dr. Arifin Dwi Saputro, added that the active participation of the local farming community—which successfully operated up to 90 percent of the machinery granted in previous programs—serves as a strong motivation for UGM to provide ongoing technical assistance.
“We hope that our relationship does not end with this handover. Our department has a specialized laboratory dedicated to agricultural machinery and equipment. If you encounter any challenges or wish to modify the tools granted, our laboratory doors are always open,” said Dr. Arifin.
Representing the Bambanglipuro Agricultural Extension Center, Dwi Widayati, S.P., expressed deep gratitude for UGM’s dedication to advancing the agricultural and livestock sectors in Sidomulyo. She urged the beneficiaries to maintain the machinery properly to support the community’s economy and welfare.
Expressions of gratitude were also shared by Paijo, Head of the Lembu Suro Livestock Group. He noted that UGM’s guidance over the past few years has brought tangible benefits to the group’s operational efficiency.
“Thank you for UGM’s attention to our group. This is a true blessing for us because this machinery assistance will greatly support and ease the daily activities of our members,” Paijo remarked.

Through this mentoring program and agricultural machinery modernization, UGM reinforces its commitment to promoting science- and technology-based agricultural management that directly benefits rural community welfare.
