The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTPB FTP UGM), held a coordination meeting with the Yogyakarta Regional Office of Perum BULOG to discuss internship opportunities for undergraduate students of Agricultural Engineering. The session took place on Monday, December 8, 2055, at the meeting room of DTPB FTP UGM.
Representatives from Perum BULOG, Mr. Fuad from the Rice and Paddy Procurement Division and Mr. Kristanto Ari from the Human Resources Division, attended the discussion. They were welcomed by Dr. Arifin Dwi Saputro as the Department Secretary, Dr. Murtiningrum as the Coordinator of TPLH Research Group, Dr. Devi Yuni Susanti as the Coordinator of TPPB Research Group, along with DTPB faculty members Dr. Hanim Zuhrotul Amanah, Dr. Bayu Nugraha, and Hilda Maya Sintia Dewi, M.Sc.
Opening the meeting, Dr. Arifin stated that internship and industrial work practice programs are essential pathways to enrich students’ exposure to real working environments. He emphasized that experience outside the classroom enables students to see how agricultural engineering knowledge is applied in professional fields.
During the discussion, Mr. Fuad presented an overview of internship activities that students will undertake at BULOG. Students will gain direct experience in rice and paddy procurement processes sourced from various regions in Indonesia. They will also observe quality control procedures, study the characteristics and diversity of paddy and rice from different regions, and learn about drying techniques and warehouse management for commodity storage.

He highlighted that BULOG provides a comprehensive learning environment for students. “What they learn on campus will meet real industry operations. Students will strengthen both their practical skills and understanding of supply chain management,” he explained.
Dr. Murtiningrum added that a structured internship scheme needs to be formulated collaboratively so the program runs effectively. “A well-designed internship mechanism will ensure that students gain meaningful experience in terms of duration, output, and learning quality,” she noted.
This meeting marks an important step in establishing a collaborative internship program between DTPB FTP UGM and Perum BULOG Yogyakarta Regional Office. The collaboration is expected to expand students’ competencies through applied learning in the national food logistics sector.
