
Yogyakarta, July 10, 2025 — The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTPB FTP UGM), welcomed an academic visit from Dr. Rebecca Hood-Nowotny, Priv.-Doz. M.B.A., Ph.D., a lecturer and researcher from BOKU University, Vienna, Austria. The visit marked a significant step in strengthening international collaboration between FTP UGM and BOKU through the implementation of the 2025 ASEA-Uninet project.
Dr. Rebecca was received by Dr. nat. techn. Rizki Maftukhah from DTPB FTP UGM. During her visit to UGM, she also held discussions with the leadership of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, including the Dean, Prof. Dr. Eni Harmayani, and the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration, and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Sri Rahayoe. The meeting took place in the Dean’s Meeting Room of FTP UGM and focused on the details of collaborative activities to be carried out throughout the visit, covering both academic and joint research agendas.
Dr. Rebecca also met with the Head of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Lilik Soetiarso, M.Eng., IPU., ASEAN Eng., and the Department Secretary, Dr. Arifin Dwi Saputro, to discuss strengthening joint research plans and scientific publication collaborations between the two institutions.
This visit is expected to enhance the partnership between FTP UGM and BOKU Austria and contribute meaningfully to addressing land degradation, improving food security, and promoting ecologically-based technologies suited to tropical contexts. The collaboration not only broadens the international network of both institutions but also creates cross-cultural learning opportunities for the academic community, especially students and young researchers.
This initiative aligns with UGM’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through nature-based solutions; SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by strengthening safe and sustainable food production systems; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering international scientific and technological collaboration.
