DTPB FTP UGM Students Win Grand Winner Title at the ROOTS SDGs Competition 2025

Yogyakarta, 22 November 2025 — The delegation team from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTPB FTP UGM) has once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the ROOTS SDGs Competition 2025, organized by the Sustainability Club MBA FEB UGM. The Grand Final, held on 22 November 2025 at MM UGM, brought together innovative student teams from across Indonesia to design real solutions that support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Carrying the theme “Sustainable Project Innovations for an Inclusive and Resilient Indonesia”, the competition challenged students to present sustainable projects with measurable impacts. The DTPB FTP UGM team competed in the Existing Project category—a special category for innovations that have been physically implemented and have demonstrated real, measurable impacts.

In this category, the team presented RainPurify, an automatic rainwater filtration system integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT), designed to transform turbid rainwater into clean, usable water. RainPurify’s proven ability to significantly reduce water turbidity, combined with its sustainability-oriented business model, impressed the judges. As a result, the DTPB FTP UGM team earned the prestigious title of Grand Winner of the ROOTS SDGs Competition 2025 in the Existing Project category.

This achievement becomes even more remarkable as the RainPurify team also received a direct investment offer from the judging panel during the final session—solid validation that this innovation is ready to be scaled into a high-impact technology startup.

The RainPurify team was supervised by DTPB FTP UGM lecturers Dr.Eng. Ansita Gupitakingkin Pradipta, S.T., M.Eng., and Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D. The team members are as follows:
• Les’ Aullian Achmad Argito (2022) – Team Leader
• Kayla Maliska Putri Fida (2022)
• Shidqon Fathul Muqorrobin (2022)
• Adimas Dwi Prabowo (2023)
• Syafira Aulia Fajriah (2023)

This victory reinforces the capability of DTPB FTP UGM students in producing technological solutions that are relevant, sustainable, and impactful. RainPurify stands as one of the higher education innovations aligned with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

This achievement further strengthens DTPB FTP UGM’s position as a leading innovator in agricultural and biosystems engineering, consistently fostering sustainable technologies and empowering the younger generation to create positive impacts for a more inclusive and resilient Indonesia.
