Bandung, August 7–9, 2025 – Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho, lecturer and researcher at the Smart Agriculture Research Center, Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), actively participated as a panelist in the 2025 Indonesian Convention on Science, Technology, and Industry (KSTI). This prestigious event was held at Sasana Budaya Ganesha (Sabuga), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), from August 7 to 9, 2025.
KSTI 2025 is a direct initiative of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, aimed at bringing together researchers—particularly in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)—to harness the contribution of scientists for national advancement. The convention also serves as a crucial milestone in formulating the national research and technology innovation roadmap.
Carrying the overarching theme of Astacita, which encompasses eight priority areas of national research, KSTI 2025 acts as a strategic forum connecting academics, researchers, industry practitioners, and policymakers. Its primary goal is to discuss the direction of research and innovation development to strengthen national self-reliance while ensuring environmental sustainability, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.

Dr. Andri’s participation reaffirms UGM’s, particularly the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering’s, commitment to advancing the agricultural sector through technological innovation. As a panelist, Dr. Andri delivered in-depth insights on the implementation and prospects of “Smart Agriculture 4.0” in Indonesia. The panel discussion highlighted crucial aspects of utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and automation to enhance agricultural efficiency, productivity, and sustainability, while also addressing the challenges and opportunities in adopting these technologies in Indonesia’s diverse agricultural landscape.
In the panel session, Dr. Andri emphasized that Smart Agriculture 4.0 is not solely about employing advanced technology, but also about transforming the entire agricultural ecosystem. This includes capacity building for farmers, developing supporting infrastructure, and formulating adaptive policies. He also underscored how smart farming practices directly support the achievement of the SDGs—particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, through improved food production and efficiency, and SDG 13: Climate Action, by promoting more environmentally friendly and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho’s role as a panelist at KSTI 2025 underscores the strategic role of universities in driving innovation and cross-sector collaboration. KSTI serves as a vital platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration, expected to inspire innovative and sustainable solutions to create a more advanced, globally competitive Indonesian agriculture sector, contributing to both food security and climate change mitigation.
