UGM Agricultural Engineering Graduate Students Win Best Presenter Award at FSSAT 2025

Makassar, October 30, 2025 — A proud achievement was made by graduate students from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DTPB), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FTP UGM), who successfully earned the Best Presenter Award at the 5th International Conference on Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in The Tropics (FSSAT 2025). The conference was hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in a hybrid format on October 29–30, 2025.

Three DTPB graduate students represented UGM as oral presenters:

  • Nadya Hafidzatun Nisa, supervised by Dr. Rudiati Evi Masithoh,

  • Mu’tashimah Asshof, supervised by Prof. Kawano Toshio (Kochi University),

  • and Anisa Kistanti, supervised by Dr. Devi Yuni Susanti.

Nadya and Mu’tashimah presented their research offline at UNHAS, while Anisa participated online from Yogyakarta.

FSSAT 2025 serves as an international platform for researchers from academia, industry, and research institutions to share findings and discuss innovations in agricultural science and technology. The conference covers several key areas, including:

  • Biodiversity, soil health, and agricultural practices

  • Integrated pest and disease management

  • Food agribusiness and rural development

  • Regenerative farming systems

  • Plant breeding and biotechnology

  • Net zero farming

  • Food science and industrial-scale agriculture

  • Agricultural and environmental restoration

  • Agricultural engineering and digital farming

The UGM team presented studies under the Agricultural Engineering and Digital Farming track, including:

  • Nadya Hafidzatun Nisa: “Rapid Authentication of Dragon Fruit Peel Powder Adulteration by Vis-NIR and NIR Spectroscopy with PLSR Model”

  • Mu’tashimah Asshof: “Detection of Foreign Material in Rice using Fourier Transform Near Infrared (FT-NIR)”

  • Anisa Kistanti: “Influence of Microwave Pretreatment on Coffee Bean Microstructure and Its Adsorption Kinetics of Cinnamon Functional Compounds”

Based on the evaluation, Mu’tashimah Asshof and Anisa Kistanti received the Best Presenter Award, highlighting their excellence in research communication and innovation.

This achievement demonstrates the high quality of UGM students’ research and their contributions to the advancement of digital agricultural technology and sustainable food systems.

The research and conference participation support several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

  • SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

  • SDG 5 – Gender Equality, recognizing the contribution of women researchers from UGM in advancing agricultural science.

This accomplishment reflects DTPB FTP UGM’s commitment to academic excellence and research innovation. It is expected to inspire students to continue achieving at both national and international levels while strengthening UGM’s role in promoting sustainable agricultural development.
