UGM and Telkom University Purwokerto Explore Cybersecurity Research Collaboration in Digital Agriculture

Yogyakarta, 13 March 2026 – The Smart Agriculture Research Center team of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), together with lecturers and researchers from Telkom University Purwokerto, held an initial discussion to explore potential research collaboration in the field of cybersecurity for digital agriculture. The meeting took place on Friday, 13 March 2026, from 13:30 to 15:00 WIB at the TLBP Laboratory Discussion Room, UGM, marking an initial step toward strengthening interdisciplinary research crucial for the future of agriculture.

The discussion was attended by Muhammad Agung Nugroho, S.Kom., M.Kom., a lecturer and researcher from the Informatics Engineering Study Program at Telkom University Purwokerto. Meanwhile, the Smart Agriculture team from UGM was represented by Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho as coordinator, along with Muhammad Athala Fawwaz Dzaky, STP., and Fathuzaky Setiawan, STP.

The main agenda of the meeting included the introduction of research activities from each institution related to digital agriculture. The UGM team presented the latest developments in Smart Agriculture research at UGM, while representatives from Telkom University Purwokerto introduced their digital agriculture research initiatives. The highlight of the discussion focused on potential collaborative research, particularly in addressing cybersecurity challenges in the increasingly complex digital agriculture sector.

Dr. Andri Prima Nugroho emphasized that cybersecurity has become a vital aspect alongside the growing adoption of digital technology in agriculture.

“Digital agriculture is not only about efficiency and productivity, but also about how we protect data and systems from cyber threats. Collaboration with Telkom University Purwokerto will be highly strategic in developing innovative security solutions,” he stated.

After the discussion session, the participants also had the opportunity to visit the research facilities and research portfolio of the Smart Agriculture Research Center at UGM, including a visit to the Smart Agri Plant Factory UGM. This visit provided a direct overview of environmental control facilities and the potential for advanced data analysis as future collaborative research topics.

This exploratory collaboration discussion also contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening academic collaboration and knowledge exchange between universities in interdisciplinary research development. Second, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, through the development of digital agriculture technology integrated with cybersecurity systems to support stronger digital infrastructure. Third, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, as strengthening secure and efficient digital agriculture systems can support increased productivity and future food security. Furthermore, collaboration between researchers from Universitas Gadjah Mada and Telkom University Purwokerto aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, emphasizing the importance of synergy among institutions in generating innovation and sustainable solutions for the digital agriculture sector in Indonesia.
