DTPB FTP UGM Researchers Participate in ICOEE 2026, Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari Wins Best Presenter Award

Bali, July 31, 2026 – Research-driven environmental technology innovations play a vital role in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable development. Demonstrating its commitment to contributing to global scientific advancement, researchers from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DTPB), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FTP UGM) participated in The 7th International Conference on Environmental Engineering (ICOEE) 2026. During the conference, Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari received the Best Presenter Award for her research on transforming robusta coffee husk waste into environmentally friendly biopolymers.

Organized by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), the conference was held on July 30–31, 2026, at Bintang Bali Resort, Kuta, Bali, under the theme “Engineering Solutions for Environmental Resilience in a Changing World.” The event brought together academics, researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers from various countries to exchange ideas and discuss engineering innovations for addressing environmental challenges and climate change.

Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari presents her research on robusta coffee husk-based biopolymers during The 7th International Conference on Environmental Engineering (ICOEE) 2026 in Bali.

The DTPB FTP UGM delegation consisted of Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari, Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., and Teguh Triyana, S.T.P. Their participation reflects the department’s commitment to disseminating research outcomes while expanding international academic networks and collaborations in agricultural engineering, environmental technology, and sustainable resource management.

Through a series of scientific presentations, the team introduced research integrating environmental engineering, agricultural waste utilization, decision support systems, and digital technologies to promote sustainable agro-industrial development.

Coffee Husk Biopolymer Research Receives Best Presenter Award

Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari receives the Best Presenter Award from Prof. Sadhan Kumar Ghosh in recognition of her outstanding research presentation at ICOEE 2026.

During the conference, Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari presented her research entitled “Development and Comparative Characterization of Cellulose- and Pectin-Based Biopolymers from Robusta Coffee Husk with Glycerol Variations for Sustainable Material Recovery.”

The study focused on the development and comparative characterization of cellulose- and pectin-based biopolymers extracted from robusta coffee husk using different glycerol concentrations. The research offers a sustainable approach to converting agricultural waste into value-added environmentally friendly materials while supporting the implementation of a circular economy through material recovery.

In recognition of the quality of both her research and presentation, Dr. Prieskarinda received the Best Presenter Award, presented by Prof. Sadhan Kumar Ghosh, one of the plenary speakers at ICOEE 2026.

According to the official ICOEE 2026 information, Prof. Sadhan Kumar Ghosh serves as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Jadavpur University, India. His participation as a plenary speaker further strengthened the conference’s international profile, particularly in the fields of environmental technology and sustainable resource management.

Developing a Decision Support System for Air Quality Management

Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho presents a web-based Decision Support System for multi-parameter air quality management in agro-industrial villages during ICOEE 2026.

In another technical session, Ir. Andri Prima Nugroho, Ph.D. presented his research entitled “A Web-Based Decision Support System for Multi-Parameter Air Quality Management in an Agro-Industrial Village.”

The study introduced a web-based Decision Support System (DSS) designed to improve air quality management in agro-industrial rural communities. The system integrates multiple air quality parameters with classification and recommendation algorithms, transforming monitoring data into practical information that can support village governments and other stakeholders in making informed environmental management decisions.

The participation of DTPB FTP UGM in ICOEE 2026 highlights the growing contribution of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in addressing environmental challenges through multidisciplinary approaches. The integration of environmental engineering, agricultural waste valorization, information technology, instrumentation, and decision support systems provides a strong foundation for developing more resilient and sustainable agricultural and agro-industrial systems.

The conference also created opportunities for future collaborative research, scientific publications, and knowledge exchange with universities and research institutions at both national and international levels. Dr. Prieskarinda Lestari’s Best Presenter Award further demonstrates the quality, relevance, and international competitiveness of the research conducted by the academic community of DTPB FTP UGM.
