UGM terus memperkokoh jati dirinya sebagai World Class University (WCU).

Praktikum Lapangan Soil Health Training

UGM continues to strengthen its position as a World Class University (WCU). This is demonstrated through the Staff Mobility for Training program using the EU Erasmus+ Key Action 1 International Credit Mobility Project to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna, Austria, from September 27, 2023, to October 8, 2023.

The Faculty of Agricultural Technology at UGM has a vision to become an international center of excellence in providing education, research, and community service in the field of agro-industry. One component of agro-industry is agricultural land management, particularly soil management. From an agricultural perspective, soil serves as the medium for plant growth and development. To achieve sustainable agriculture, environmentally friendly farming practices are required, and one of these practices involves soil conservation.

In order to enhance the capacity of human resources in the field of agricultural soil, Dr. Ngadisih from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, UGM, has been assigned to participate in training on testing the health of agricultural soil, both in the laboratory and in the field. This training contributes to the university’s efforts to improve soil management and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Field Practices on Soil Health Training

The objective of the Staff Mobility for Training at BOKU is to foster collaboration, exchange teaching methods, and provide direct input from practical experiences into education, particularly in the field of agricultural soil. The partnership between UGM and BOKU was initiated in 2015. In this 2023 mobility program, training is conducted on testing the Phosphorus content in soil using the Molybdate/Ascorbic Acid Blue method and soil respiration testing using the Bromothymol Blue method.

These methods will be integrated into the Soil Laboratory course at the Department of Land and Water Resources Engineering (TSLA) at FTP UGM, as well as introduced to field extension officers and farmer groups in community outreach programs. This collaborative effort aims to enhance the quality of education and practical knowledge in the field of agricultural soil management while contributing to community development through knowledge dissemination.
