Baturono Village is one of the villages in the Salam Sub-District of the Magelang District with a majority population of livelihood as farmers. With the favorable natural conditions for agriculture, the farming in this village can support the local economy.
As an agricultural village, Baturono Village has some groups of organic farming, but still less developed. Department of Agriculture Engineering through the implementation of the Student Community Services-Community Empowerment Learning (KKN-PPM) performed community service with the theme ‘Organic Farming’.
KKN-PPM with the theme of organic farming has been conducted from July 10 to August 31, 2009. The KKN-PPM Baturono Village team consisted of 22 UGM students with a core of 6 Agricultural Engineering students.
The implemented programs as the derivation of the theme were the water provision for rice with SRI (System of Rice intensification) method, training and demplot of organic fertilizer making, grain drying extension and grain dryer development, handling of rice by-product, and post-harvest technology for chili. Program were conducted through lectures, discussions, tool development, and demplot.
